In 1789 Orange Co. NC, Stephen Kirk was one of several sued by Samuel Strudwick. This was a land ejection case which Strudwick won. Strudwick, a land surveyor, came into several 1000 acres of land. He started re-surveying this land, and the result was that many people had to give up some land which they thought they owned.

These are to authorize and empower you or any three or four of you, whose names are here under written to report to all such parts and places within the state as you shall be directed by John Kirk administrator goods and chattels of Stephen Kirk late of Chester district deceased. .......over any of the said goods and chattels are or do remain within the said parts and places, and which shall be shown unto you by the said John Kirk administrator, and there view and appraise all and every the said goods and chattels, being first duly sworn on the holy Evangelists of almighty God to make a true and perfect inventory and appraisement there of, and to cause the same to be returned by your hands or any three or four of you, unto the said John Kirk. On or before the first Monday of February next. Witness: E Lyles, ordinary of the said district, the first Monday of February now next.

Note: The gift deeds between Stephen Kirk and his sons Jesse and Thomas, 22 Oct 1783, Orange Co. NC, turned up in the most unusual place. These two gift deeds were recorded in the Orange County, NC Will Book A. Though they were deeds, they were not recorded in the deed books. Stephen was not deceased at the time and these deeds were not part of a probate proceeding.
